The India document path

Because India uses the apostille, your family's income and asset documents do not need the long embassy chain that many countries face. Each document gets one apostille from India's Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and a certified Italian translation, then you take the set to a DiSCo-approved CAF. It is a clearer path — but still start early. In India the MEA does not apostille a paper until it carries the signature of the right State authority, so most documents pass through a State-level check first, and that takes weeks.

Next: Sign it in person at a DiSCo-affiliated CAF once you are in Italy. Its deadline comes after the application.

What the ISEE parificato measures

The is worked out from your family's 2024 income and the assets they held on 31 December 2024. To qualify you must stay at or below €28,339.88 ISEE and €61,608.48 ISPE.

You sign it in person at a DiSCo-approved by 10 December 2026 ( ). This deadline is hard — miss it and you are excluded, with no fix.

The apostille route

India is in the Hague Convention, so each document needs a single apostille from the Ministry of External Affairs plus an Italian translation — no Italian Embassy stamp is needed. Kazakhstan documents use the .

  1. 1Get each document from the issuing office in India (below).
  2. 2Have each document authenticated by the correct State authority first (for example the State Home Department, the Revenue office, or a notary). The MEA adds the apostille on the basis of that State signature.
  3. 3Get the apostille from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). You cannot hand papers to the MEA yourself — you submit them through one of the MEA's outsourced agencies (for example BLS International).
  4. 4Get a certified Italian translation of every apostilled document.
  5. 5Take the full set, in person, to a DiSCo-approved CAF in Lazio for the ISEE parificato.

The documents to gather

Each in Indian rupee’s language and Italian, apostilled where required. Amounts are stated in Indian rupee (INR).

The apostille makes this simpler — but plan for two steps inside India

You avoid the embassy chain: one MEA apostille per document instead. But the MEA apostilles a paper only after the right State authority has signed it, and you must submit through an outsourced agency, not the MEA counter. So each document has a State step and then the MEA step. Collecting papers, authenticating, apostilling and translating them takes weeks. Begin as soon as you know you will apply.

Which office issues what varies by Indian State — confirm with your CAF

India has no direct match for the Italian 'family status' certificate, and the office that issues income and family documents differs from State to State (Tehsildar, Revenue department, e-District portal). The income proof the CAF accepts can also differ — income certificate, ITR, or employer certificate. Before you spend money on apostilles and translations, ask your CAF which exact documents it wants for your family, and how it wants your family composition proved.

The apostille route is solid: India has been in the Hague Convention since 2005, there is no objection between India and Italy, and Italian universities list India as an apostille country. The MEA is the authority that issues the apostille. What varies is the paperwork inside India — the office that issues the income proof and the family-composition proof differs by State, and the exact income document the CAF accepts can differ too. Confirm those points with your CAF before you start.
