🇧🇩 The Bangladesh document path

Bangladesh joined the Hague Apostille Convention, and Italy did not object to it. Because of this, your family's documents now follow the apostille route, not the old embassy route. Each document is verified inside Bangladesh, gets one apostille from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and is translated into Italian. Then you take the full set to a DiSCo-approved CAF in Lazio. This route is newer than the embassy route, and not every office in Italy has caught up with it yet. Start early, and confirm with your CAF that it accepts the digital apostille from Bangladesh.

The apostille route

Bangladesh recently joined the Hague Apostille Convention and Italy accepted its accession, so each document now needs one apostille from Bangladesh's Ministry of Foreign Affairs plus a certified Italian translation. The Italian Embassy in Dhaka no longer legalizes Bangladeshi documents. Kazakhstan documents use the apostille.

1. 1Get each document from the issuing office in Bangladesh (below).
2. 2Have each document notarized and verified through the right Bangladeshi authority first. Income and asset papers go through the National Board of Revenue (NBR). Bank papers go through the Ministry of Finance. Family and civil papers go through the Law Ministry.
3. 3Get the apostille from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh through the MyGov e-apostille portal. The apostille is digital and carries a QR code.
4. 4Get a certified Italian translation of every document. A translation made in Bangladesh is itself notarized and apostilled; you can also use a sworn translator in Italy.
5. 5Take the full set, in person, to a DiSCo-approved CAF in Lazio for the ISEE parificato.

The documents to gather

Each in Bangladeshi taka’s language and Italian, apostilled where required. Amounts are stated in Bangladeshi taka (BDT).

• Family composition

  A family certificate that lists every household member with name and date of birth. In Bangladesh this comes from the local Union Parishad chairman in rural areas, or the ward councillor / City Corporation office in towns and cities. If one parent is missing, add the divorce or death document of the other parent (these do not change, so older documents may be reused).

• Housing

  Either the property document for the family home (it must show the size in square metres), or the rental contract, with the monthly rent in taka for the reference year. A rental contract counts as an agreement, so it must be notarized before it can be apostilled.

• Income

  For each working family member, a document showing their income in taka for the reference year. Salaried members give an employer salary certificate. Business or self-employed members give an income certificate backed by their trade licence or National Board of Revenue (NBR) tax papers. A family member with no formal employer can get an income certificate from the local Union Parishad chairman or ward councillor. Income and asset statements are checked by the NBR before the apostille is added.

• Bank balance

  A Bangladeshi bank statement, with the bank's stamp, showing the account balance in taka on a day in December of the assets year, plus the yearly average if the bank can give it. An English version is usually enough for the bank paper, so it often does not need the full apostille chain.

• Student's Italian bank (if any)

  If the student held an Italian account, its balance on 31 December of the assets year and the yearly average.
